Uterine myoma: What is its dangers to women’s health?
Myoma, or fibromyoma, is a benign tumor that forms on the walls of the uterus and cervix. Its dimensions can vary from a few millimeters to several centimeters, and cases of multiple myoma are common when it comes to several tumors at a time.
Why does myoma have uterus?
The development of myoma is a result of a violation of the hormonal background of a woman. So often, this tumor is a problem for young women, and it can spontaneously dissolve itself during a climacteric period, when the level of estrogen significantly decreases.
Factors that have a direct impact on the development of uterine fibroids are as follows:
hereditary predisposition;
inflammatory gynecological diseases;
metabolic disorders;
diabetes;
chronic diseases of the internal organs;
prolonged stress, which suppresses the work of the ovaries, thyroid gland;
numerous abortions;
use of intrauterine helix.
Myoma of the uterus is considered a hormone dependent tumor, so it occurs only after the onset of puberty. Consequently, myomas almost never happens before the onset of the first menstruation and during the period of climax. Due to the violation of local regulation of hormones that feed the uterus, with an increase in their level, there is a growth of myoma.
In women who have given birth to at least one child, the likelihood of a myoma decreases.
Symptoms of uterine fibroids
If the size of the myoma is small, then its presence is unlikely to disturb the woman, the symptoms will be erased. In most cases, the illness is detected during a routine examination by a gynecologist, so it is important to periodically visit this doctor (recommended once every six months).
A large myoma will have the following symptoms:
menstrual cycle disorder;
the presence of bloody secretions within the cycle;
constipation;
frequent urination;
uterine bleeding;
feeling of pressure at the bottom of the abdomen;
pain in the pulling character at the bottom of the abdomen, which is not associated with menstruation;
increase in abdominal size;
infertility
Treatment of myoma
If a woman is approaching the age of climax by age, the size of the fibroids is small, it is slowly growing, it can be treated conservatively.
Operative treatment is indicated in the following cases:
The tumor is large, it affects the adjacent internal organs.
Myoma provokes severe uterine bleeding.
New growth is growing fast.
Myoma is the cause of a woman’s pain and poor health.
Depending on the type of myoma, its location and size, the physician chooses the type of tumor removal surgery. It can be laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, cavitary surgery. If it is impossible in any way to stop the growth of the myoma, other operations are impossible, then the uterus is completely removed.
Why is the uterine myoma dangerous?
Although the myoma is benign, not malignant neoplasms, it is still dangerous for a woman. After all, its growth can negatively affect the work of other internal organs, which tumor grips. She often provokes bleeding, pain, and a woman’s poor health. But most importantly, like any other benign tumor, the myoma has a chance to turn into a malignant tumor. So, if it arose from a young woman who is still far from a climax, the best thing to do is remove it promptly in my mind. It is known that during the period of climax its growth stops, and the tumor itself may disappear. Therefore, elderly women are closely monitored and assigned to them operations in extreme cases: when the growth of the myoma is intense, or its localization is dangerous for the work of other organs.
It should be remembered that the myoma is, above all, a tumor. Therefore, its formation and finding in the body of a woman is extremely undesirable.
